The Reds Refuses to Alter Offensive Approach Amid Recent Slump, Says Head Coach Slot

Arne Slot has announced that the Anfield decision-makers share his views regarding the team's slump and he has no intention of discarding their attacking style in pursuit of a turnaround. The manager admitted that six unsuccessful results in seven games was not good enough ahead of Aston Villa's visit.

Pressure Mounting Throughout Tough Spell

Slot accepted the scrutiny was intense before his rotated squad were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he insisted that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or management structure following a summer transfer outlay of approximately £450 million.

"They say similar things," remarked Slot, whose side will meet Real Madrid in the continental tournament and travel to Manchester City in the domestic competition.

Player Depth Stays Unchallenged

Slot believes his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are all fit and completely set for the schedule ahead". He noted that the recent signings in footballers like Florian Wirtz and the forward, who is expected to be sidelined again against the Birmingham club through injury, had left the club "in a strong situation for the immediate prospects and the distant prospects".

Team Cohesion Issues

When asked why his team were taking so long to gel, he replied: "That's not particularly helpful. 'Why, why, why?' I provide reasons and people say I'm making justifications. I can list five or six reasons why we are underperforming or losing as much as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are insufficient justifications to have a performance streak as we had now."

  • Even if I could identify 200 excuses
  • When you are Liverpool you should not suffer defeats
  • The reality is six losses from seven matches

Defensive Numbers

Only the Lancashire club (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from normal situations this season than Liverpool (nineteen). The first-place team, the Gunners, have allowed just two. Yet Slot denies the champions have been too open and maintains there is no justification to sacrifice his attacking principles for a defensive approach after ten matches without a clean sheet.

"I don't see us giving up numerous openings so I don't see a reason to alter our approach entirely but we need to do better in keeping clean sheets," he stated.

Recent Examples

"Against Manchester United, how many opportunities did we allow? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we hardly conceded a attempt on goal. In each fixture we played until now we haven't conceded a many opportunities. Not at all. We do allow a bit more than the previous campaign but that stems from us being 1-0 down so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't believe that our problem is that we allow too many opportunities. Our issue is we don't score the openings we produce."
