A Patriotic Design and Familiar Emblem

The new livery incorporates a patriotic design to represent the UK flag and will be rolled out on locomotives, at stations, and across its online presence.

Interestingly, the logo is the distinctive twin-arrow logo currently used by National Rail and originally introduced in the 1960s for British Rail.

The Introduction Strategy

The introduction of the new look, which was created by the department, is expected to occur gradually.

Commuters are expected to begin spotting the newly-branded trains on the UK rail network from spring next year.

Throughout the month of December, the branding will be displayed at key railway stations, including Glasgow Central.

A Path to Nationalisation

The Railways Bill, which will enable the creation of Great British Railways, is presently making its way through the House of Commons.

The administration has argued it is taking control of the railways so the system is "owned by the people, delivering for the passengers, not for profit."

Great British Railways will unify the operation of passenger trains and infrastructure under one umbrella body.

The department has claimed it will unify 17 separate organisations and "eliminate the problematic administrative hurdles and lack of accountability that has long affected the railways."

Digital Features and Existing Public Control

The launch of Great British Railways will also feature a comprehensive app, which will let passengers to check timetables and book tickets without surcharges.

Passengers with disabilities users will also be able to use the app to book support.

Several operators had earlier been nationalised under the previous administration, such as Southeastern.

There are currently seven operating companies now in public control, representing about a one-third of passenger trips.

In the last twelve months, South Western Railway have been nationalised, with additional operators likely to be added in the coming years.

Official and Sector Comments

"This is not simply a cosmetic change," stated the relevant minister. It signifies "a transformed service, shedding the issues of the previous system and focused completely on providing a proper service for the public."

Industry figures have responded positively to the pledge to enhancing services.

"We will continue to work closely with industry partners to ensure a smooth transition to GBR," one executive said.
