The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family navigate their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
