Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
