Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old presenter was approached by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before running away.
The reason of the incident remains unclear and no arrests are in custody, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities indicated that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a location close to the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," authorities stated.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and wearing what resembled a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed a short distance away.
It was further revealed that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the attack.
Important clues, like cartridges, were recovered from the crime scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.
"We know they walked a long distance after the shooting, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to establish their destination," stated a police chief.
A Nation in Mourning
His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am devastated. I don't have words," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about subjects not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a profound tragedy."
She requested the public to avoid sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, above all for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a popular local broadcasting platform.
Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including protective services, providing high-level security services and securing prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in building administration and was involved in building evictions.

His death has sent the nation reeling and triggered an flood of condolences from his fans, the government and various organizations.
A government minister said he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's murder.
"He spoke his truth without fear or favour. He even criticized me and my actions as a public official. He was a true embodiment of who we should be," he stated.
A party figurehead stated the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a trauma for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director noted that "DJ Warras was not merely a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a generous spirit who brought excitement and dynamism to every appearance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a release, the channel he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his legacy "will live on".
