Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of the Championship side just half a year following leading disrespectful chants aimed at their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a deal joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds finished amicably in August.
Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead abusive songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder
Both men had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All appears to have been put behind them with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Career Challenges
The forward made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
