Paceman Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his hamstring immediately following a delivery in his spell at the MCG.

The touring camp reported the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and would spend time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January begins at the end of the week.

England have been without fast bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, taking just three wickets.

He was dropped of the third Test, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman as one of just three England players who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, on the final ball of his spell, he sent down a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt at his leg.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test following his omission of the third.
