Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
