Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return for the upcoming Hunger Games instalment, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Reports indicate that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Significant Comeback for the Franchise

Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their appearance will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.

This marks the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in important characters:

  • Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the filming timeline:

  1. Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
  3. The much-discussed film is scheduled for November 2026 theatrical debut.

Audiences worldwide can now look forward to the return of these central characters to the world of Panem.
